What’s the Difference Between Synthetic Oil and Regular Oil?

When you receive a Mercedes-Benz oil change near Niagara-on-the-Lake as part of your Mercedes-Benz maintenance schedule, our mechanics will only use synthetic motor oil. But what is synthetic oil?

Synthetic oil implements crude oil, just like regular oil, but it includes a number of additives that further refine its viscosity, breaking down that crude oil at a molecular level. Synthetic oil features a number of advantages over regular oil:

  • It creates less friction, meaning that it lasts longer and does a better job of protecting your engine block.
  • Expect fewer deposits on your engine block.
  • The additives in synthetic oil actual work to break potential deposits down, removing grime from your engine’s hundreds of components.
  • Synthetic oil can withstand greater heat, meaning that you can expect better performance in hotter climates.
